Is this background remover free?
Yes. It is completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many images you process.
Are my photos uploaded anywhere?
No. The AI runs inside your web browser, so your photo never leaves your device. It is not sent to our website or to any AI service. Only the AI model itself is downloaded the first time you use the tool.
Why is it slower the first time?
The first time, your browser downloads the AI model (about 45 to 90 MB, depending on your device) and saves it. After that it starts much faster.
Which photos work best?
Photos with a clear subject that stands out from the background give the best results. Fine hair, glass, smoke and backgrounds with the same colour as the subject are harder and may need a touch-up with the refine brush.
Some background is left over. What can I do?
Choose Erase and paint over the leftover background. If part of your subject was removed, choose Restore and paint it back.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes, on recent phones and tablets with an up-to-date browser. Older devices can be slow or run out of memory with very large photos; in that case try a smaller photo or use a computer.
Can I use the result for my business?
Yes. The images you create are yours to use for personal or business projects.

The background removal uses the open-source ISNet model (DIS project, Apache 2.0 licence) running with ONNX Runtime Web (MIT licence). The model file is downloaded from Hugging Face the first time you use the tool; your photos are processed only in your browser.
